It is the first thing that a potential employer will look at to judge you, and therefore holds the power to decide your fate even before you face an interviewer. A powerful resume will leave a lasting impression on a potential interviewer even before he/she has met you, and will give you a chance to drive the interview in the direction you want. - Use a clear format that focuses on the content more than the design. However, if you are applying for a job that requires you to showcase your creativity, you should consider having a resume that showcases your skills and helps you stand out from the rest.
- Have a clear objective at the beginning of the resume. This should be tailored according to the job you are applying for. This line is your introduction, and should summarize in a few words why you are best suited for the position you are applying for.
- Keep it short, simple and to the point. Your resume should ideally not be more than 2 pages long. You should also highlight the key points you want the interviewers to focus on.
- Always customize your resume as per the job you are applying for. The points you wish to highlight may not be the same for an IT job and a Marketing job, so make sure that the resume is tailored as per the job position and the company that you are applying for.
